Wyoming became a state in 1890, the 44th state admitted to the union. In the past 100-plus years, Wyoming has gained great notoriety for the friendliness of its people and the breathtaking beauty of its landscape.

Included in Wyoming's boundaries is America's first and largest national park, Yellowstone. Within the beauty of Yellowstone is the "Old Faithful" geyser and Yellowstone Lake, the world's largest high mountain lake. Wyoming has a wealth of wildlife (over 260 different species of animals and birds), including grizzly bear, moose, bison, elk, big horn sheep, deer, and the majestic bald eagle. Yellowstone is also home to the single largest population of cutthroat trout found anywhere in the world.

With hundreds of miles of blue-ribbon trout stream fishing and abundant and various wildlife species, Wyoming contains great appeal to sportsmen. Wyoming is also home to the largest population of pronghorn antelope in the world. It is easy to see why Wyoming has a global reputation for the great outdoors.

Wyoming is also home to Devil's Tower, America's first national mounument, and the world's largest mineral hot springs located in Thermopolis. For breathtaking beauty, Wyoming can't be beat. This reputation brings millions of visitors to Wyoming each year. Plus, some of the best skiing in America can be found in Wyoming. Tourists and sportsmen flock to Wyoming to enjoy the clean mountain air and limitless outdoor attractions.

The history of the great American west can be heard whistling through the Wyoming wind. With the great battles between the Cavalry and Native Americans, and claiming some of America's worst outlaws, Wyoming has a historic place in the taming of the West during the late 1800's. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were two of Wyoming's most famous citizens during this era of lawlessness and you can still find remains on the Wyoming prairies and in the old army forts that now stand as reminders of an age that will live forever in American lore.

People are Wyoming's strongest resource. You will find Wyoming people to be down to earth, friendly, and helpful. Many Wyomingites are on the cutting edge of politics, entertainment, and business. Among the most famous Wyomingites are: former U.S. Secretary of State James Baker; Los Angeles Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss; U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney; Hall of Fame Sportscaster Curt Gowdy; actor Harrison Ford; country music singer Chris LeDoux; businessman J.C. Penney; retired U.S. Senator Alan Simpson; and attorney Gerry Spence.

For great people, great scenery, and a great education, check out Wyoming. It's like no place on earth!
