Wyoming's Kate Burton Named MWC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week

Wyoming senior Kate Burton has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, while Colorado Sate senior Drew Morano and New Mexico senior Jeremy Johnson have been selected as the MWC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Co-Athletes of the Week.

Fifteen Track Records Go Down at First Annual Front Range Invite

As the First Annual Front Range Invitational presented by Qdoba Mexican Grill came to a close Saturday, May 3rd, the Air Force Academy Men and the Colorado State Women walked away with the team championships, the University of Wyoming men placed third overall while the women took second at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.

The weather held up as 15 total records were broken and six Wyoming athletes qualified for the NCAA Regional Meet.

Spring Chill Won't Stop Wyoming Track and Field

The First Annual Front Range Invitational presented by Qdoba Mexican Grill is set to be hosted by the University of Wyoming track and field teams Saturday, May 3rd at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. The meet will be the second ever at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex, as the Cowboys and Cowgirls hosted the Wyoming Invite last May.

The teams competing for the traveling Front Range Invite trophy will be the University of Colorado, Colorado State, Northern Colorado, Air Force Academy and the University of Wyoming.

Cold Weather Can't Slow Down UW Track and Field

The wind and cold in Fort Collins, Colo., was no match for the University of Wyoming track and field team as they competed in the Jack Christiansen Invitational on Saturday, while the rest of the team completed action in Eugene, Ore., at the Oregon Invite.

UW Track and Field Announces the Signing of Top Student-Athlete

The University of Wyoming track and field program and head coach Don Yentes, announced the signing of another member to the 2008-09 Cowgirl squad in Afiya Walker of St. Augustine, Trinidad.

Walker, a transfer from the University of Trinidad and Tobago will compete next year as a sophomore in the indoor season and a junior for the outdoor season.

At the Stanford Invitational on Friday evening, senior Cowgirl Gretchen Johnson re-wrote her name in the record books with her regional qualifying, 5,000-meter time of 16:35.98, .04 seconds off the top time set by L. Barinaga in May of 1980.

Strong Showing at Cougar Invite and Stanford Invite for UW Track and Field

A portion of the University of Wyoming track and field team finished competition at the Stanford Invitational today, while the majority of the team competed at the Cougar Invitational Friday, March 4th in Provo, Utah.

At the Cougar Invite the Cowgirls performed very well as senior Kate Burton led the way by winning the hammer throw.

Solid Performances at Lopez Classic and Upton Invite for UW Track and Field

The University of Wyoming track and field split up their team this weekend to compete in both the Victor Lopez Bayou Classic in Houston, Texas, and the Rob Upton Invitational held in Fort Collins, Colo.

Friday and Saturday at the Lopez Classic, the Cowboys and Cowgirls combined for 13 top five finishes, including three first place titles.

Wyoming junior Courtney Gougler and New Mexico junior Anthony Fairbanks have been selected as the MWC Women's and Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Recording a lifetime-best performance in her first meet of the outdoor season, Gougler placed second in the discus throw at the Colorado Potts Invite.

UW Track and Field Opens 2008 Outdoor Season

The first day of spring was Thursday and the Wyoming track and field team celebrated by opening the 2008 outdoor season today in Boulder, Colo. Both the Cowgirls and Cowboys had a solid day of competition at the Potts Invitational on the University of Colorado campus.

The Cowgirls came away with two first place finishes on the day, including a win in the 4x100 meter relay.

The Wyoming track and field program announced today that Kelly Gray, one of the top track and field athletes in the state of Wyoming, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Wyoming next fall.

Gray, a native of Rock Springs, Wyo., brings a very impressive resume to the Wyoming track and field program.

Mark Korir and Jake Shanklin Earn All-America Honors

Wyoming's Mark Korir and Jake Shanklin each received All-America honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday, following their strong performances at last weekend's NCAA Championships.

Korir, a junior from Eldoret, Kenya, earns the third All-America honor of his career.

Shanklin Concludes NCAA Championships With 11th Place Finish

As the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships came to a close today in Fayetteville, Ark., Wyoming Cowboy junior Jake Shanklin placed 11th in the 35-lb weight throw.

On Friday UW junior Mark Korir placed fourth in the 5,000-meter race.
