2007-08 (Freshman): As a true freshman, Gabe was the Cowboy's most consistent player this past fall and had the team's lowest stroke average, 74.35. He is a solid, mature player for his age and is fundamentally sound. The Wyoming team could count on Maier to reliably shoot in the low 70's and he played all seven tournaments for UW. His lowest round of the fall was one-under par 71, which he shot four times. Gabe also had three top-25 finishes in his first go-around with collegiate golf, highlighted by a 15th place performance at the highly competitive Tucker Invitational. He should really benefit in the future from playing 20 rounds in his first college semester. Maier contributed in Hawaii to the Cowboys recording the third-best team round in school history, 278 (-10), and the third-best team event total at UW, 859 (-5).
High School: In 2006, Maier placed third at the Wyoming 4A State Championship as a senior. He also placed third at the state tournament as a junior. Gabe was a three-time All-Conference and All-State selection, as well as his high school team's MVP for three years. He played well on a national junior level, earning the distinction of Pepsi Junior Series Player of the Year in the Rocky Mountain Region during the summer of 2006. Gabe was a Junior America's Cup team member in 2006 and played in the Westfield Junior PGA Championships. In 2005 he made the cut at the Canadian National Junior Championship, the only 16-18 year old American to do so. Maier earned letter awards four years in golf and also lettered on the Cody HS hockey team as a junior.
Personal: Gabe was born in Mount Vernon, Wash., on Nov. 10, 1988. His mother is Coletta Maier and he is the youngest of three children. Gabe is undeclared on a major within the College of Business at UW. He is left-handed.
