Flashback in Wyoming Athletics History

Feb. 2, 1979
Wyoming vs. Northern Arizona
Cheyenne, Wyo.

On this date, Lori (Kline) Waddell, a freshman Cowgirl Basketball player claimed the top spot on the all-time University of Wyoming single-game blocked shots list, rejecting nine shots against Northern Arizona.

In the neutral site game held in Cheyenne, UW defeated NAU, 97-73. Kline, a 6-4 center from Calumet City, Ill., played only 18 minutes, yet still recorded eight points, ten rebounds and nine blocks.

Lori matched her record number of single-game blocks twice more during her career: on Dec. 5, 1980 versus Saskatchewan and on Dec. 13, 1981 against Adams State. She also holds the number two UW all-time mark with eight blocks in a game, Jan. 22, 1983 versus BYU.

During Kline's freshman year, the Cowgirls went on to go 25-7 for the season, with Kline playing in 30 games. Kline averaged 2.1 blocks, 7.2 rebounds and 8.8 points per game her freshman year.

Kline also played from 1980-1983 for the Cowgirls. She missed the 1979-80 season due to a knee injury. She had 64 blocked shots in her freshman season with the Cowgirls. As her career progressed, so did her blocked shot totals; 80 in 1982-83, 85 in 1980-81 and a school record 93 in 1981-82. Those four season totals are the top-four in UW's record books.

Lori is still the UW all-time blocked shots record holder, with 322 blocked shots in her career. Her blocked shot record looks to be secure for quite some time, as she is well ahead of the number two spot held by current Cowgirl senior Hanna Zavecz (148).

Kline also holds single-season and career spots in the UW record books for field goals made, points, free throws and rebounds. Kline had 1,521 career points while she played as a Cowgirl, currently eighth all-time.

Kline, who is married to former Cowboy Football letterman Tim Waddell, is now living in Cody, Wyo. with her family. Her son, Adam Waddell, is now a freshman at the University of Wyoming playing for the Cowboy basketball team.
