Wyoming Golf to Play All-Day Marathon as Fundraiser

How many holes of golf could you play in one day?

The University of Wyoming men's and women's golf teams will answer that question for themselves on Monday, May 12 in Laramie. UW team members, coaches and program supporters will attempt to play as many holes as possible in one day at Jacoby Golf Course, having solicited sponsors who promise to donate a certain amount per hole the golfer plays.

In the second annual Cowgirl Classic, the University of Wyoming women's golf team matched their highest finish of the season and placed second on Tuesday at the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz. The Cowgirls finished the three round tournament with a score of 915 (+51) and were only three strokes away from first place in the 16-team field.

Following 36 holes and over ten hours of golf, the Wyoming Cowgirl golf team is in third place out of 16 teams following the opening day of the 2008 Cowgirl Classic at the Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz. The Cowgirls shot a two-round total of 613 (+37) and trail Nevada and Eastern Washington, who each shot 611 (+35), by only two strokes.

The Cowgirls began the tournament with an opening round score of 311 (+23).

The Wyoming Cowgirl golf team shot their best score of the event, 318 (+30), on Wednesday in St. George, Utah at the BYU Dixie Classic, but did not improve their position from the start of the day and finished in eighth place of 13 teams.

UW senior Laura Mengelkamp completed an event trifecta on Wednesday by firing her third consecutive round of 76 (+4).

It was two extremes for the Wyoming Cowgirl golf team on Monday at the Oregon Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore. UW opened the day with their best round of the spring, a score of 308 (+20) in the morning, and then closed the day with their worst round of the spring, a mark of 325 (+37).

Wyoming's 36-hole total of 633 (+57) is good for ninth place out of 15 teams with one round remaining to be played on Tuesday morning.

The Wyoming Cowgirl golf team improved three spots in the team standings for the second consecutive day and finished in fifth place of 16 teams on Wednesday at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kane'ohe, O'ahu, Hawaii.

UW fired 316 (+28) during the final 18 holes and totaled 950 (+86) after the three-round event.

UW played the second of three rounds at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kane'ohe, O'ahu, Hawaii, and they jumped up three spots in the team standings due to more difficult course conditions and higher scores across the board.

The Wyoming Cowgirl golf team ventured across the Pacific Ocean on Monday to play the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kane'ohe, O'ahu, Hawaii. UW shot 314 (+26) in the first of three scheduled rounds.

Wyoming is in sole possession of 11th place out of 16 teams, yet only eight strokes back of sixth place Columbia.
