Mikala Henzlik

Player Profile
Class:
Junior

Hometown:
Rapid City, S.D.

High School:
Stevens

Height:
5-5

2007-08 (Junior): Henzlik has two full seasons of collegiate golf under her belt and is a team player who represents the Cowgirl program with class in many ways. She is quiet, determined and hard-working when it comes to her own game, yet very encouraging to her teammates. She did not play any fall events for UW, but is a key to the improvement of the Wyoming women's program. Mikala should have no problem returning to the form of her freshman year and pushing for a spot on the travel roster. Henzlik is the Cowgirls' SAAC representative.

2006-07 (Sophomore): Mikala was one of only two Cowgirls to play all 12 events during the season. She was UW's No. 5 player and had a decent fall and a difficult spring. Henzlik's best round was a 75. For the second straight year, she continued to excel in the classroom and earned Academic All-American Scholar honors by the NGCA, as well as Academic All-Conference and MWC Scholar Athlete awards. Henzlik won the Wyoming State Amateur title and was a USGA Women's Amateur Public Links qualifier during the summer of 2006.

2005-06 (Freshman): Mikala made a splash in her freshman year, with four top-25 event finishes, including a fourth place showing at the MWC Championship. She was one of only two Cowgirls to play all 11 tournaments. At the MWC Championship, her final round of 70 (-2) vaulted her from 19th to fourth place out of 35 golfers. Not only was the two under-par round the event low, but it was also Henzlik's career best and tied for the second lowest round in UW history. The MWC event finish was the highest for a Cowgirl golfer since Jordan Lintz won the inaugural MWC title in 2000. Henzlik's event total was 224 (+8), only two strokes back of first place. Her other top-25 finishes came at the Bronco Fall Invitational (11th), the Lady Aztec Fall Classic (17th) and the Santa Clara Invitational (12th). Mikala put forth exceptional effort in the classroom, and as a 4.0 student she was awarded Academic All-American Scholar honors by the NGCA, as well as Academic All-Conference and MWC Scholar Athlete awards.

High School: Henzlik was a two-sport prep athlete at Stevens HS in Rapid City, S.D., the same high school as former Cowgirl star Jordan (Lintz) Cherebetiu. She lettered four times in both tennis and golf. Her golf team won the AA state title in 2004, and Mikala was named to the AA All-State team in 2004 and 2005. Henzlik won the 2003 South Dakota Golf Assoc. Junior Girls title, as well as the South Dakota Independent Insurance Agents' State Junior Girls crown that same year. That win qualified her for the IIAJC National Finals in New Jersey. Mikala was a 2005 USGA Women's Amatuer Public Links qualifier and played in the National Championship held in Kansas City, Mo. In tennis she was on the AA All-State team three times and her team was AA state champions in 2002 and 2004. An honors student, she was in the National Honor Society and graduated with a GPA over 4.0. Mikala was also recruited by Montana St., Minnesota, Louisville and South Dakota St.

Personal: Born Jan. 31, 1987, in Boulder, Colo. Mikala is the daughter of Dean and Tamara Henzlik. Her younger brother, Phil is a freshman on the Cowboy team. Mikala's father Dean played for the Cowboy Golf team from 1972-76. Henzlik is a pre-pharmacy major. She is left-handed, but plays golf right-handed.
