Cowgirl Soccer Completes Coaching Staff

Wyoming Cowgirl Soccer head coach Danny Sanchez announced Tuesday the hiring of Kim Whisenant and Jason Green to complete his coaching staff for the 2008 season.

Whisenant will remain at Wyoming and enter her fifth year as an assistant coach for the Cowgirls.

Cowgirl Soccer Begins Spring Season

Spring is in the air and the Wyoming Cowgirl Soccer team is chomping at the bit to start working toward a Mountain West Conference Championship with new head coach Danny Sanchez.

The Cowgirls began practice earlier this month and will kick off their spring schedule this weekend as they head to Provo, Utah to compete in the BYU Indoor Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Cowgirl Soccer Signs Three Student-Athletes to National Letters of Intent

University of Wyoming head soccer coach Danny Sanchez announced today the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to attend Wyoming in the fall of 2008.

"All three student-athletes will have the opportunity to come into our program and compete immediately," Sanchez said.

University of Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman announced today that Danny Sanchez has been hired as the third head coach in Wyoming soccer history.

Sanchez comes to Wyoming after posting a 128-11-7 (.901) record in six seasons as the head women's coach at Metro State College in Denver, Colo.

University of Wyoming Athletics Director Tom Burman announced Thursday that head women's soccer coach Anne Moore has decided to resign her position at the University of Wyoming.

Moore and her husband Curt have two young sons, and her decision to resign grew out of a desire to spend more time with her family.

Wyoming was unable to get their offense going Wednesday afternoon as the #4 Cowgirls fell to #5 Utah 2-0 in the opening round of the MWC Tournament. The Cowgirls end the season with a 9-10 overall record while Utah advances to the semifinals with a 12-4-4 record.

Wyoming junior Tamika Wilson was named Co-Mountain West Conference Player of the Year on Tuesday evening. She is the first player in Cowgirl Soccer history to receive the prestigious award. She was also named to the MWC All-Conference First Team and was named the MWC Offensive Player of the Week last week.

Wyoming junior forward Tamika Wilson and UNLV senior forward Katie Carney have been named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while UNLV sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Lugo has been named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Wilson, an Orem, Utah, native, scored her 10th and 11th goals of the season in Saturday's 4-1 win against Utah.

With the loss, the Cowgirls fall to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in the Mountain West Conference while BYU improves to 13-2-2 overall and 3-2 in conference matches.

The Cowgirl Soccer team fell on the road to the San Diego State Aztecs 1-0 on Sunday afternoon as UW continues through the heart of their taxing MWC schedule. The Cowgirls slip to 7-8-0, 2-2-0 in the MWC while the Aztecs improved to 8-6-2, 3-1 in the MWC.

"This was a tough road loss to a team that is playing very well in our conference," UW head coach Anne Moore said.
